James Ronald Crump

JAMES RONALD CRUMP, 80, beloved husband of Vernena Hamm Crump, passed away Friday evening, April 12, 2024, in Anchor Post Acute Care in Aiken.

Born in Poteau, OK, Jim was a son of the late Enoch and Helen Roope Crump. Growing up in a military family he spent his childhood living in various states across the US as well as overseas.  He honorably served in the US Air Force from 1962 to 1965.

Jim married Vernena in July of 1966.  Their journey together led them to live in different cities throughout the country.  Jim dedicated 30 years to IBM in various technical positions before expanding his expertise into other technical and instructional positions. He continued his service to the nation by joining the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) after its inception post-9/11.  He concluded his professional career by returning to technical field training.

Jim's personal passions were hunting and fishing, however he always made time for his grandchildren and missionary work.  His legacy is one of faith, love for his family and unwavering patriotism.

Survivors, in addition to his wife of 57 years, Vernena, include two daughters, Bretta Crump, Windsor, SC, Rhonda Gaines and her husband David, Charlotte, NC; two grandchildren, Jada Gaines, Carson Gaines; a sister, Rebecca Palmer, Baxter Springs, KS.

A memorial service will be held Saturday afternoon April 27th at 2 o’clock EST in the Millbrook Chapel with The Rev. Bill Howard III officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Samaritan’s Purse (samaritanspurse.org) .
