James V. Bloomquist passed away on October 27, 2026, at the comfort of his home in Aiken, South Carolina. He was born on June 18, 1935, in Fargo, North Dakota, and spent his formative years in the suburbs of Chicago.
James was a graduate of the University of Illinois, where he earned bachelor degrees in both electrical and mechanical engineering. He built a distinguished career in hydraulics, a field that took him around the world through his work with Vickers Corp and other compaies. He later retired as Vice President of Technology with Trinova, Inc. His professional life reflected both technical skill and dedication, and he was well liked by those who knew and worked with him.
Beyond his career, James found enjoyment with motorcycles, cars and most things with engines. He admired Elon Musk and was a devoted fan of Tesla. He also brought people together in meaningful ways, organizing the original Cedar Creek Men’s Monday Out to Lunch group, a reflection of his friendly nature and the connections he valued.
Above all, James will be remembered by his family with love and gratitude. He is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Carol (Caroline) Bloomquist. He also leaves behind his children: David Bloomquist (Evette) of Woodstock, GA; Stephen Bloomquist (Lin) of Sherrill Ford, NC; and Sandy Bloomquist (Charlie Silvers) of Queen Creek, AZ. His family continued to grow through the generations, and he is also survived by his grandchildren, Melissa Coutts (Jon), Kim Neely (John), Geoffrey Bloomquist (Alyssa), Cameron Bloomquist (Ashley), Eric Bloomquist (Maddie), and Natalie Silvers; his great-grandchildren, Tessa Bloomquist, Miles Bloomquist, Kaitlyn Neely, Emily Neely, Issac Bloomquist, Addison Bloomquist Lucas Bloomquist and Wesley Bloomquist; as well as his sister, Patricia Soukup of Hinsdale, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Charlotte Bloomquist and his brother Dick Bloomquist.
