James A. Barr, Sr.

Aiken – Mr. James “Tony” Anthony Barr, Sr., 67, passed away Monday, April 17, 2023.

James was born in Ancon, Panama, son of the late Peter James Barr, Sr.  and Betty Ruth Barr-Ausnehmer. He received The Army Commendation Medal as a Specialist Four for serving with the 1097th Transportation Company at Fort William D. Davis in the Panama Canal Zone.  When health permitted, he was an avid sportsman and outdoors enthusiast.  He held a deep appreciation for the natural splendors that surround us at all time; from the smallest of insects to the largest mammals and plants.  He was particularly fond of all the flora and fauna found in the diverse environments of Panama.  In addition to this, he enjoyed gardening and horticulture. 

James is survived by his sons, James A. (April) Barr, Jr., Easley, SC, Jonathan A. (Sarah) Barr, Aiken; brothers, Peter Barr, Jr., Aiken, Sean A. (Charity) Barr, Aiken; fiancée Debbie Turner; Drew Turner and family;  numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

James received the Blessing of the Remains by Fr. Orlando Serrano Ardila - St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic  Church, prior to cremation. 

The family will privately celebrate James’ life at 1:00 PM, Saturday, April 29, 2023, at the family farm, with military honors.
