Aiken – Helen Ruth Landsman Marine, 89, beloved and loving mother, wife, daughter and sister, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 15, 2021. She was surrounded by her children.

Helen was born April 7, 1932 in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of the late George Maxwell and Grace Grossman Landsman. She spent her childhood in New York and Richmond, VA. After graduating from high school in Miami, FL, she attended George Washington University, studying journalism.  Helen married Ira Wendell (Wink) Marine on June 20,1953 and they had 33 years of happiness and adventures before his passing in 1986.  Helen was very active in the Aiken community--Girl Scout Leader, Den Mother, ParaPro at Aiken Elementary, Diabetes Association Board, Aiken Community Playhouse Board, active member of the Nose in a Book Club, founding member of Friday the 13th Club, Bridge Club, and a member of St. John's United Methodist Church. She loved to travel, visiting all 50 states and the provinces of Canada, as well as numerous trips overseas.  Her favorites were a 1984 trip to China and trips to The Netherlands and Kenya.  The most special trip of all was her annual beach week on Hilton Head, hosting a multitude of family and friends.  Helen was a reporter for the Aiken County Rambler, publisher and editor of Aiken County Register, and a stringer for the Greenville News for many years.  She always liked following a good story and reading a good book!  Helen was the reigning family Scrabble champion for over 65 years!

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband I. Wendell Marine.  She is survived by her children, Karen Bellamy (William) of Hilton Head, Andrew Marine of Aiken, Kenneth Marine (Julie) of Hollister, MO and Linda Monson (Richard) of Bainbridge, GA.  She is also survived by her brother, Robert S. Landsman of Bethesda, MD, and her  grandchildren, Katie and Kristen Monson, Ira Weston and Alex Marine, and Caroline Bellamy

A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 pm on Friday, November 19, 2021 at SHELLHOUSE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 924 HAYNE AVE., AIKEN, SC. Please follow CDC COVID 19 social distancing guidelines while attending the visitation.

In lieu of flowers, please direct memorials to: Aiken Partnership, Dr. I. Wendell Marine Memorial Endowed Scholarship at USCA, 471 University Parkway, Aiken, SC 29801.
