It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Hazel Burgess Pardue, who departed this life on June 25, 2026, at the age of 92. Hazel was a cherished wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, caregiver and friend to many. Her warmth, kindness, and generosity left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
She was born on July 16, 1933, in the small rural community of Foxtown in Aiken County. She was a resident of Kalmia Landing in Aiken and was very active in the community’s social and educational programs.
The youngest of six girls and one brother, she grew up surrounded by love and support. She lived a life filled with remarkable achievements, memorable adventures, and countless acts of kindness. Hazel was known for her unwavering dedication to family, friends, and community. She touched the lives of many through her career as a banker, volunteer worker, and church member at Memorial Baptist Church in Aiken. She always offered a helping hand or a listening ear to everyone she met.
Hazel is survived by her son Burt Pardue (wife Hazel Monteith), grandchildren J Pardue Ballard (husband Matt) and Daniel Monteith, two great-grandchildren, and a brother Ed Burgess (wife Stephanie). In addition, she is survived by numerous nieces and nephews and their families. The entire family will forever cherish the wonderful memories and the legacy of love she left behind. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 52 years, Dudley Pardue, her mother Lettie and her father Jessie Burgess, five sisters: Bertie, Myrtle, Trannie, Pansy, Alice, and a brother, Bill Burgess.
Hazel will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love, laughter, and compassion will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate to have known her.
The family would like to offer special acknowledgement and thanks to Gentiva Hospice of Aiken and to the cadre of special caregivers who faithfully supported Hazel at home. An extra special thanks to Cindy Crawford who provided much love as well as coordinated Hazel's care.
A service to honor and celebrate Hazel’s life will be held on July 6 at 11:00 am at Shellhouse Funeral Home, 924 Hayne Ave SW, Aiken, SC. The family will receive visitors after the service. There will be a private burial for the immediate family prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the American Cancer Society.
