Harry G. Wood, Jr - 87, died of kidney failure on February 4, 2022, at home in Aiken, SC.
He is survived by his wife Virginia of Aiken, SC, son Brian (Michelle) of Bloomfield Hills, MI, daughter Laura (Tim) of Mount Pleasant, SC, granddaughter Emily (Daniel) of Melrose, MA, and grandson Trevor (Eri) of Plymouth, MI.
Born on October 4, 1935, in Park Ridge, NJ, and educated at Lehigh University, Harry loved jazz, home renovations, the NY Times crossword puzzle, golf, watching βhisβ New England Patriots and NY Giants football teams, and conversations that went well beyond small talk. His sense of humor was sometimes compared to that of Johnny Carson, characterized by a twinkle of the eye as a clever retort formulated in his keen mind.
He lived much of his life in Northern New Jersey, served in the army at the Presidio in San Francisco, CA, during the Korean War, and retired to Orleans, MA, then later to Aiken, SC, after a career in textiles.
A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, he engendered in his family the same strong value system he himself lived, characterized by a sense of right and wrong, belief in the truth, and dedication to doing your best in every endeavor.
