July 19, 1930 – April 19, 2026
Glenn R. Cass, a devoted family man, lifelong educator, and tireless worker, died peacefully at the age of 95 at his home in Aiken, South Carolina.
Born on July 19, 1930, to Clyde and Bessie Jackson Cass in Terre Haute, Indiana, Glenn was one of seven children in a close-knit farming family. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Caroline Flater Cass, who passed away in 2006, as well as all his siblings: Max Cass, Joe Cass, Don Cass, Gayle Cass Clark, Doris Cass Harris, and Lex Cass.
Glenn dedicated his professional life to education, serving as a teacher, coach, principal, superintendent, and college administrator, all in southern Indiana. He earned degrees from Indiana State University in Terre Haute and Indiana University in Bloomington. Throughout his career, he gained deep respect from colleagues and left a lasting impact on countless students, many of whom remembered him not only for his leadership, but for his fairness, integrity, kindness, and genuine care.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Glenn was known for his remarkable skill and self-reliance. A talented carpenter, electrician, mechanic, plumber, and all-around handyman, he rarely sat still and was always immersed in one project or another. His hands built, fixed, and improved countless things over the years—a reflection of both his work ethic and his desire to help others.
Glenn was a man of service. He participated in multiple mission trips during his retirement with the Church of the Nazarene, traveling to Africa, Brazil, the Dominican Republic, and a Native American reservation in Arizona, where he gave generously of his time and talents.
Above all, Glenn was deeply devoted to his family. He is survived by his daughter, Carole Cass Buskirk, and her husband, Sheldon Buskirk. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kyle DeVault and his wife, Kylie, and Travis DeVault and his wife, Holly. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren: Adrienne DeVault Mazak and her husband, Jake; Jackson DeVault; Quinton DeVault; Graycen DeVault; and Barrett DeVault. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Corene Cass Lily, and many nieces and nephews, including Lex Cass and Elana, Rex Cass and Terri, Terry Cass, Lori Ann Cass Alexander, Karla Sue Stannard and Rex, Anita Cass Yardas and Dale, and Ladonna Cass Chambers.
Glenn spent most of his life in Indiana, where he built his career and raised his family, before relocating to South Carolina in his later years.
He will be remembered as a man who was always busy, always dependable, and always there when he was needed. His life was one of purpose, service, and quiet strength, and he leaves behind a legacy that will not be forgotten.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Indiana this summer, with details to come later.
