Gladys C. Johnson, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2026, at the Barclay House of Aiken. Born May 10, 1933, in Camden, South Carolina, to George and Sallie Lominac Childers, Gladys lived a life marked by devotion to her family, faith, and community.
For 24 years, Gladys was the proud owner and stylist of Beauty Hut in Aiken, where her warmth and skill left an indelible mark on many lives. She was not only dedicated to her career but also deeply committed to her family, who were the heart of her world. Nothing brought her more joy than gathering her loved ones together in her home and creating lasting memories during their many beach trips.
Gladys was a faithful member of Hillview Baptist Church in Graniteville, SC. Her love for her church and church family was a cornerstone of her life, providing spiritual strength and fellowship that sustained her through the years.
Gladys made the Barclay House of Aiken her home for the past year and a half. The staff there affectionately called her “Grandma” and provided her with loving care, for which her family expressed their deepest gratitude.
Gladys’s surviving family includes her devoted daughter, Tami Meyer of Aiken, SC; her sons Alan Blackwell (Sheila) of Moore, SC, and Ralph Blackwell, Jr. (Mattie) of Laurens, SC; eight grandchildren—Jennifer Allensworth, Lindsey Sommers, Danielle Meador, Stephen Blackwell, Dylan Blackwell, Jason Blackwell, Joseph Blackwell, and Tessa Morgan; seven great-grandchildren—John Allensworth, Hailey Sommers, Brantley Sommers, Ashton Cudd, Kylie Blackwell, Ferris Blackwell, and Cameron Blackwell; and two great-great-granddaughters, Adeline Cudd and Annelise Cudd.
Gladys was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 47 years, Teddy A. Johnson, who passed away in August 2024; her daughter, Deborah Meador; her sister, Joyce Epting; and her son-in-law, Stewart Meyer.
The family will receive friends Thursday morning, April 30th beginning at 10 o'clock at Shellhouse - Rivers Funeral Home. Following the visitation, a memorial service will take place at 11 o'clock with The Rev. Mike McAlpin Officiating.
