Aiken, SC – Mrs. Gladys May Flitter Goad, 94, passed away Thursday, December 20, 2018. Mrs. Goad was born in Ecchinswell (near Newbury), England, a daughter of the late Clara Smith and Edward "Ted" Flitter. She had been a resident of Aiken for six, and was a former Cafeteria Baker for the Prince George's County school system. During the war in England she was a "Rosie the Riveter" and help make wings for the Spitfire planes and throughout her life loved playing all card games, particularly pinochle. Survivors include her son, James Leslie (Stephanie) Goad, Aiken; daughter, Terry Goad, Aiken; grandson, Benjamin Goad, Anderson, SC; and sister, Rose Heaver, Kingsclere, England. She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar H. Goad, and siblings, Arthur, Dennis, and Winn. The funeral service will be held at 2:30 PM, Thursday, January 3, 2019 in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Cheltenham, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to a charity of choice.
