George Edward Snyder, 78, of Aiken, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on June 24, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. Born on July 8, 1947, in Brandenburg, Kentucky, George was the son of Loren and Mary Catharine Snyder. It was in their hometown of Ekron, Kentucky, that he met and grew up alongside the love of his life, Jeanie F. Snyder. Together, they shared 54 wonderful years of marriage.

George will always be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He treasured time spent with his family and was immensely proud of the life he and his wife, Jeanie, built together. In addition to his beloved wife, Jeanie, he is survived by his son, Joshua Snyder (Lindy) of Lexington, South Carolina; his granddaughters, Kate Caroline Snyder and Charlotte Grace Snyder; his sisters, Nancy Webber (Dick) of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Cathy Snyder Haring of Fort Collins, Colorado, and Teri Wear (Art) of Missoula, Montana; his sister-in-laws, Beth Frymire of Louisville, Kentucky and Francie Caudill (Ivol) of Toledo, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews: Kelly Duff, Krista Kear, Rob Duff, Stephanie Caudill, Clay Caudill, Wally Irvin, Joe Michael Irvin, Caitlin Haring, Taylor Haring, Cai Wear, and Maura Wear.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Loren and Mary Catharine Snyder of Ekron, Kentucky, and his sister, Peggy Duff of Missoula, Montana.

George proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, attaining the rank of Sergeant. Following his military service, he earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in criminal justice from Eastern Kentucky University. In 1980, George began a distinguished career with the Federal Bureau of Prisons, where he served until his retirement in 2003. Throughout his career, he also found enjoyment in teaching criminal justice at numerous colleges and universities. He later concluded his career with the GEO Group before retiring and making Aiken his home.

George embraced life with energy and enthusiasm. An avid runner and cyclist, he completed numerous half marathons, including the Marine Corps Marathon. In retirement, he continued pursuing the activities he loved, logging countless miles on the road and forming enduring friendships as a proud member of the Bombay Biking Club.

Above all, George will be remembered for the steadfast love he gave so freely—faithfully loving his wife, encouraging his son, delighting in his granddaughters, and sharing laughter and kindness with anyone fortunate enough to know him. His legacy is found not only in the years he lived, but in the family he cherished and the friendships he treasured.
