AIKEN, SC – FREDERICK JOHN HRYNIEWICH, 93, died peacefully on Monday, October 21, 2024. A native of Cambridge, MA, Frederick was a son of the late Joseph and Kazmiera Uskiewicz Hryniewich.
Fred was the beloved husband of the late Edna Louise (Harnum) Hryniewich. They were married 65 years. They raised their family in Acton, MA prior to moving to Aiken 19 years ago.
Fred served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He loved flying and earned his private pilot’s license. Fred worked as an IBM System Engineer. He was an active member of the Acton Minutemen. He was a member of the Shriners International (Aleppo Shriners in MA), Scottish Rite of South Carolina, and Aiken Lodge No. 156. Fred was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and was a volunteer with the Aiken Hospital Auxiliary.
After retiring, Fred and Louise had many adventures. They were active volunteers, serving in the Peace Corps in Jamaica. They volunteered at multiple national parks, including Maho Bay and VIERS (St John’s US Virgin Islands), Cape Lookout (NC), Death Valley (NV), Mount Washington (NH) and Maica National Park (FL).
Fred will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor and ability to fix anything.
Survivors include his son David Hryniewich, of Windsor, SC, daughter, Elizabeth “Liz Hryniewich, of Chelmsford, MA; and son Frederick Hryniewich and his wife Diane, of Acton, MA; four Grandchildren, Lindsay O’Malley, Nicole Sheets, Kali Hart, Bethany Hryniewich; and six great grandchildren, Lillian, Peter, Wesley, Bennan, Joshua and Landon; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Fred was preceded in death by his wife Edna Louise Harnum, a son, Steven Wayne Hryniewich, two brothers, Henry and Joseph Hryniewich, two sisters Edna Rymsha and Genevieve Anderson.
A memorial service will be held at a future date.
