Evelyn Baughman Elkins

EVELYN BAUGHMAN ELKINS, 92, passed away Wednesday morning, November 23, 2022, at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

A native of Greenville, SC, Evelyn was the daughter of the late Archie Wise Baughman, Sr. and Mollie James Price Baughman.  She was first married to the late John R. Altman, Sr., and then to the late Bill Elkins.  She had lived in Aiken since 1955 and retired as a guide at the Savannah River Site.  She was a faithful member of Levels Baptist Church where she was a former Sunday School teacher and GA’s leader.  She will be remembered as fun loving, fancy free and a “Sexy Grandma”. She dearly loved her children and grands.

Survivors include two daughters, Johnnie Sue Woodward (James), Vickie Key (Jesse); a son, John Robert “Bobby” Altman, Jr. (Jan), all of Aiken; five grandchildren, Michael Woodward, Tina M. Mathis, Gene Hodges, Jason Hodges, Missie Holley; eighteen great-grandchildren and a great-great- granddaughter.  In addition to her parents and husbands, Evelyn was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Ann Fulmer; three grandchildren, Robby Altman, Ryan Altman, Steve Skidmore; great-grandson, Gregory Richardson and a brother, Archie W. Baughman, Jr.

The family will receive friends Saturday morning, November 26^th beginning at 10 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home.  The funeral service will follow at 11 o’clock at the funeral home with her grandson, The Rev. Dr. Jason Hodges and Rev. Jordan Bird officiating.  Interment will be private.
