Emily Susan Vine

E. Susan Vine, 82, passed away peacefully on the morning of July 15, 2025, at 5:15 a.m.

She was born on December 12, 1942, in Garrettsville, Ohio, to Everett and Mary Irvine Vine, and went on to live a life marked by service, intellect, and quiet strength.

Susan was predeceased by her brother, James Vine, and is survived by her loving wife, Joan Blood; her sons, Benjamin Stone (Brenda) and Andrew Stone (Sarah); and six beloved grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings Victoria Vine and Michael Vine (Linda), as well as nieces, nephews, and a wide circle of friends and loved ones.

In her early years, Susan served in the Peace Corps in Brazil, where she developed a lasting appreciation for global community and cross-cultural connection. After returning to the U.S., she moved to New York City, where she worked for both the United Nations and the Council on Foreign Relations, contributing her skills to the cause of international understanding and diplomacy.

Susan was highly educated, holding both a B.A. and M.A. in French Literature from Kent State University, as well as an M.B.A. from Simmons College Graduate School of Management. Her academic accomplishments reflected her intellectual curiosity and dedication to learning.

Later in her career, Susan transitioned into the high tech industry, where she brought the same focus and integrity to her work before eventually retiring. In 2016, she and her wife moved to Aiken, South Carolina.

Susan had a deep love for horses and dogs, and she devoted much of her time and care to the animals who shared her life. She was also passionate about genealogy, tracing her family’s lineage back generations and proudly maintaining memberships in both the Mayflower Society and the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).

Whether she was helping others quietly behind the scenes, researching centuries of family history, or offering her wisdom and kindness to those around her, Susan left a legacy of compassion, curiosity, and dignity.

Her memory will be cherished by all who had the joy of knowing her.
