AIKEN - Eleanor Rose Schaab Riley entered into eternal rest in Aiken, SC, on June 1st. She was born in New York City on January 14, 1928, to George Schaab and Hermine Marahrens. In 1949, she married Robert Lincoln Riley who died in 1989. She is survived by her children; Robin (Marcy) Riley of Aiken SC, Lynn (John) Lipkvich of Brookfield VT, and Paul Riley of Groton, MA; a brother, George Martin Schaab of Freeport, NY; a cousin, Betty Lee Tiedemann of Blue Hill, ME; her grandchildren, Christine (Douglas) Oberhamer of Cranford NJ and David (Megan) Riley of Baltimore MD, as well as two beloved great-granddaughters. Eleanor was a successful business woman for over 50 years. She worked for major retailers in New York and Connecticut and eventually opened five ladies’ specialty stores on the Connecticut coast. She was named Business Person of the year by the Guilford CT Chamber of Commerce in 1993. Eleanor loved being the matriarch of the family. She never missed an opportunity to see her grandchildren perform in concerts and often traveled long distances to do so. She enjoyed gathering her children and grandchildren for family vacations in her favorite spot-Stowe, Vermont. A memorial service will be held at 2:30 PM on Saturday, June 10th at St. Paul Lutheran Church with the Reverend Jeffrey Erbskorn officiating. A reception will follow at the church.
