Edna Earle Gregg Hanna

NEW ELLENTON, SC - Edna Earle Hanna, 98, beloved wife of the late Arthur J. "Art" Hanna, passed away Tuesday morning, September 22, 2026.

A native of Florence County, SC, Edna was a daughter of the late Leonard H. and Grace E. Floyd Gregg. She grew up in a small community (Evergreen, SC), with five siblings. Rooted in close family relationships, friends and community; she enjoyed her family's musical talents and learning gardening skills from her father. The love of plants, trees and flowers has been a lifelong joy, sharing with area friends and family. Edna graduated from Winthrop College, NC in 1949, majoring in Elementary Education. Teaching was her passion, seeing little minds be filled with whatever she could teach. Having grown up in a blessed community, she met her late husband, Art through church and shared events. Married on April 8, 1950, they celebrated 65 years of marriage. Has lived in New Ellenton since 1956 and church member at Foreman Memorial Baptist Church since 1957. Edna served in various roles at the church, taught in the Children's Department, with VBS, worked with WMU and the Women's Prayer groups.

Survivors include five sons, Arthur L. (Chip) Hanna (Denise), Summerville, SC, Ron A. Hanna (Pearl), Waxhaw, NC, Gary Hanna (Terry), Aiken, SC, Mark Hanna (Jeanna), North Augusta, SC and Ken Hanna (Sharon), Irmo, SC; sixteen grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and one sister Ann Gregg Hatchell (Larry), Evergreen, SC. In addition to her parents and husband, Edna was preceded in death by three brothers, Jack, Jimmy, Bruce Gregg and one sister Frances Gregg Huggins.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 PM Friday, September 25, 2026, at Foreman Memorial Baptist Church, with funeral service following at 2:00 PM. Her son Ron Hanna will officiate. Interment will follow in Southlawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Matthew Hanna, Kenny Hanna, J.J. Hanna, David Hanna, Joshua Hanna, and Caleb Hanna.
