Dwight Nichols Buchanan

September 18, 1931 — December 7, 2023

Anderson, SC

Dwight Nichols “Nick” Buchanan, born in Cashiers, NC on September 18, 1931 to Minnie and Dan Buchanan passed away on December 7, 2023 at Piedmont Hospital in Augusta, GA.   He lived much of his life in NC and then Dillard, GA and Anderson, SC.

He is survived by his wife of almost 67 years, Ruby Buchanan and daughters, Dianne Martin (Lynn) and Debbie Byrd. He has two grandchildren, Courtney Mills, (John) and Joey Messick as well as a great grandson, Tripp. He was preceded in death by five siblings and has one surviving brother, Floyd Buchanan, Cashiers, NC. Nick served his country in the army, based in Germany.

He loved to help others. Even though he had no sons, he helped friends coach baseball teams and lead Boy Scouts for several years. He loved to camp and kayak and even made his own fiberglass kayaks. He loved the game of golf, whether watching or playing. He went many afternoons after work as well as weekends.

Nick was always there for all our families and friends. Delivering apples in the fall, to buying an appliance gone bad for someone, he was always helping. He will be greatly missed by our friends and family.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Anderson, SC.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org).
