Weeks, Kelsie A. Taylor, and Colby A. Taylor (Maddy); her sister, Mary Wright Webb; her nephew, Hunter W. Drew was preceded in death by her husband, the Honorable Thomas W. Weeks, their beloved cat, Seaweed, her parents, Hunter S. Wright and Frances Tyus Wright, her niece, Allison Weeks, and her brother-in-law, Dr. William “Bill’ Webb.
Drew was born on April 10, 1943, in Memphis, Tennessee. Her family relocated often for her father’s career with DuPont before settling in Aiken, SC, in 1952. A proud graduate of Aiken High School, Class of 1961, Drew was a spirited cheerleader and lifelong learner. She pursued studies at Furman University earning her degree from Palmer Business School in Augusta, GA. Drew continued her education at USC-Aiken, The Citadel and Clemson University to obtain qualifications to teach AP Computer Science and Programming at Barnwell High School, where she taught for seven years.
Drew later co-founded a gourmet food business, Foxhunt Farms, with her sister. A gifted writer and cook, she authored True Southern Family Recipes and co-authored What Can I Bring? with her daughter. Drew’s deep faith was central to her life. A lifelong Presbyterian, she was an active member of the Barnwell Presbyterian Church and later the Presbyterian Church of Edisto Island where she participated in Stitch Sisters, served as a coordinator for the Food Pantry, created birthday cards for members, embroidered and donated The Lord's Supper and the Fruit of the Spirit wall hangings and participated in many other activities throughout the years. She was also an active member of the Edisto Island Yacht Club.
Drew faced a major medical crisis that resulted in a lengthy hospital stay including several weeks in a coma. She lost the fingers on her right hand due to a rare allergic reaction to heparin and thanks to the expert care and compassion of Dr. Arthur J. “Jack” Crumbley, III and Dr. Walter “Walt” E. Uber, became a pioneering patient in the development of direct thrombin inhibitors as alternatives to heparin, such as bivalirudin, an anticoagulant for reversing thrombocytopenia. Her resilience during recovery gave her a new lease on life and sparked a new passion: quilting, which became one of her most cherished pastimes in the years that followed.
Drew was a rare blend of analytical and artistic – excelling in math and science while nurturing her love of creativity. She found joy in reading, sewing, embroidery, crafting with vinyl and paper, painting, cooking, solving puzzles, and researching family genealogy but most of all, she loved spending time and enjoying life with her family.
