Douglas “Doug” Edward Temples, 68, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 11, 2026, following an extended illness.
Born on January 4, 1958, in Greenwood, South Carolina, Doug lived a life defined by loyalty, generosity, honesty, and an unwavering love for his family and friends. A lifelong resident of Aiken with a few stops in Chicago, Lexington, and Phoenix, he never met a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone. His outgoing personality, caring heart, and steadfast loyalty left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Doug worked in sales throughout his career, earning the trust and respect of colleagues and clients alike through his integrity, hard work, and commitment to always doing the right thing. He believed that if you gave someone your word, you followed through. Known for “telling it like it was,” Doug valued honesty above all else and encouraged others to face life prepared, often asking “what’s your exit strategy?”
Outside of work, Doug embraced life’s adventures. He loved fishing, especially the rivers and lakes of South Carolina, where he would spend as much time as he could. He had a passion for travel and enjoyed exploring new places, taking trips to China, Hong Kong, South America, and traveling to most of the continental United States. He was always willing to try something new and believed experiences were meant to be shared.
Doug also loved gathering around a good meal with family and friends. He was a devoted fan of James Bond films, enjoyed stand-up comedy, and rarely missed an opportunity to watch a great action movie. An avid picture taker, he would hate to be called a photographer, he spent a lifetime capturing memories, taking thousands of photographs that preserve moments his family will treasure for years to come.
Above all, Doug’s greatest joy was the people he loved. He leaves behind his beloved son, Douglas Edward Temples Jr.; his cherished mother, Betty Richardson Thompson; his sister, Gaye Temples Cain (Steve); Brother-in-law Ray Blanks; and his former wife and lifelong friend, Marsha Temples-Moseley, with whom he met at 9 years old and remained close and shared a lasting bond of friendship and family.
He also leaves behind the nieces and nephews he loved dearly: Allison Coomes, Ryan Blanks (Nicki), Kathren Moyer, Phillip Cain (Samantha), Lauren DeBord, and Stephen DeBord. Doug had a special place in his heart for children and especially adored his great-nieces and great-nephews: Mason, Carson, Lyla, Zoey, Oliver, Harleigh, and Paisleigh.
Doug was preceded in death by his father, Dancel Temples, and his sisters, Phyllis DeBord and Janet Blanks.
Doug’s greatest legacy is found in the lessons he passed on: always be honest, always take care of people, and if you say you’re going to do something, do it. Those who knew and loved him will remember a man who was generous with his time, loyal to those he loved, and always willing to lend a helping hand. His stories, laughter, photos, and unwavering love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A celebration of Doug’s life will be held at a later date.
