January 8, 1931 — April 10, 2021

AIKEN, SC - Dorothy Brown “Dot” Crawford, 90, passed away Saturday, April 10, 2021. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James Henry Crawford. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at Shellhouse Funeral Home with The Rev. Dr. Henry L. Chennault officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Private interment will be held in Bethany Cemetery. Dot was born in Rutherford County, NC, the daughter of the late Ernest Prue Brown and Connie Helms Brown. After graduating from Appalachian State University, she moved to Aiken with her husband in 1953, where she taught algebra in the Aiken County Public Schools for over 25 years, retiring in 1982. She served on the State Board of Education for Planning Educational Programs for College Curricula. She loved her students and was a tireless advocate for them throughout her career. Dot was an avid bridge player and played in several bridge clubs. She enjoyed playing tennis and golf with her friends as a member of Houndslake Country Club, served for many years on the Aiken Women’s Heart Board and was an active member of First Baptist Church of Aiken since1953. Dot is survived by two daughters, Debbie (Ronnie) Lee, Aiken, Kathy (Robert) Jenkins, Myrtle Beach, SC; a son, R. Kent (Karen) Crawford, Murfreesboro, TN; grandchildren Meredith (Lee) Prickett, Allison (Jay) Nelson, Ryan (Stephanie) Lee, Megan (Brent) Collins, Casey Jenkins, Shelby (Mathew) DeMarco, Rick (Brooke) Crawford, Kirstin (Corey) Harper; and 13 great grandchildren. Special thanks go to Mrs. Diann Baxter for her faithful and loving care for the past six years. Thank you, also, to the staff members of Hitchcock Place and Kindred Hospice.
