Dominick G. Calabro

Dominick G. “Pop” Calabro, 82, passed away peacefully at his home in Aiken, South Carolina, on September 7, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

Pop was a man of deep faith who loved the Lord and was never shy about sharing that love with others. His faith was an important part of who he was, and he cherished the time he spent with his second family at Christ Way Christian Church in Aiken, South Carolina. His faith, kindness, and genuine love for people touched many lives.

Pop truly was a “Jack of all trades.” Throughout his life, he worked hard and was never afraid to roll up his sleeves and learn something new. Among his many adventures, he spent time driving 18-wheelers, where he made countless friends along the way. Pop had a way of making people feel comfortable, and people loved talking with him. He always had a story to tell—usually one that would have everyone laughing.

One of Pop’s greatest lifelong passions was auto racing. It was more than just a hobby; it was something he loved deeply and was fortunate enough to share with his two sons. Those memories and that passion became a special part of the bond they shared and will live on through them.

Pop was a hardworking man who gave 100 percent to everything he did. Whether it was his work, his faith, his hobbies, or, most importantly, his family, he gave everything he had. But above all else, Pop was a family man. His family meant the world to him, and he loved them with his whole heart. He was a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend who will be deeply missed by everyone blessed to have known him.

Pop is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Margaret Calabro, his devoted lifelong companion. Together, Dominick and Margaret built a life filled with love, memories, family, and more than six decades of shared journeys.

He is also survived by his sons, Dominick Calabro of Pine Plains, New York, and his wife, Naomi Calabro; and Daniel Calabro of China Grove, North Carolina, and his wife, Xochitl Calabro.

Pop leaves behind his beloved grandchildren: Christopher Calabro and his wife, Rachel Calabro; Peter Calabro; Joe Calabro and his wife, Breanna; Kate Phillips and her husband, James; Ana Villagrana; and David Jordan. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Lucas Calabro, Cooper Calabro and Nora Phillips.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Carmine Calabro, Mike Calabro, Pat Hendrickson, and Joanne Calabro.

At Pop’s request, there will be no formal services. He will be laid to rest in Pine Plains, New York, a place he considered home and that held a special place in his heart.

Pop leaves behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, faith, hard work, and, most of all, love. Though he is no longer here to tell one of his stories, share a laugh, or sit down for a conversation, the memories he created and the love he gave will remain in the hearts of his family and friends forever.

Rest peacefully, Pop. You were deeply loved; you will be greatly missed, and your memory will live on in all of us.
