Dennis Levern Smith (age 72) peacefully passed on July 30, 2025 in Aiken, SC. Dennis was born March 8, 1953 to Donald Smith and Donna Sheely in Fremont, OH. He was raised around the Fremont, OH area until leaving for college to study to become an engineer. He received his B.S. and M.S. from the University of Cincinnati specializing in Nuclear Engineering. He worked in the construction, maintenance, and safety operations of several power plant facilities, originally working at Davis Bessie nuclear power plant in Ohio after graduation. His career led him to travel and move to many regions across the country as well as internationally, including Miami, FL (1980), Luling, LA (1983), and Brazoria, TX (1984). While in Texas, he fathered two sons Aaron and Michael Smith. He later moved to Augusta, GA (1989), Daphne, AL (1995), Bel Air, MD (1998), Burnham-on-Crouch, England (2004), and finally Clinton, TN (2007), where he eventually retired.
Dennis was always a joker and loved to make people laugh. He had an enthusiasm for hiking trails with his dogs and playing 18 holes on the golf course whenever he could. Wherever his job took him over the years, he was passionate about church and his church family, participating in bible studies, teaching Sunday school classes, travelling for missionary outreach, and singing in the choir. Most of all, he loved his family and children and tried to be involved however he could, from coaching his sons’ baseball teams, attending their games/track meets, travelling for family vacations together, and golfing with his sons.
He is survived by his father Donald Smith, his two brothers Steve and Randy Smith, his two sons Aaron and Michael Smith, and his granddaughter Charlotte Smith, whom all loved him and will miss him dearly.
The family will receive friends Saturday morning, August 9th beginning at 11 o'clock at Shellhouse - Rivers Funeral Home.
The funeral service will follow at Noon. Interment will be in Historic Bethany Cemetery.
