Darryl Wolfe, 73, passed away Monday May 25, 2026. A respected craftsman, historian, and lifelong supporter of the bluegrass community, he leaves behind a remarkable legacy rooted in music, artistry, and preservation. He was the author of the F5 Journal, archiving an extensive catalog documenting vintage Gibson mandolins. His work became a valued resource for collectors, musicians, and historians who shared his passion for these extraordinary instruments.
Darryl became widely known for crafting replacement pieces for vintage instruments that faithfully replicated original parts and were carefully aged to match the instrument’s character and history.
He retired from Parsons Corp. in 2015.
He is survived by wife, Debra, daughters Lauren (Chris Rubio) Wolfe, Leslie (John) Corwin, brother Gregg (Karen) Wolfe, grandchildren Dustin, Sarah, Karlie, Thomas, Avery and great grandson Camden.
Preceded in death by father, Bobby G. Wolfe, mother Bobbie J. Wolfe, and brother Mitchell Wolfe.
Services will be held privately in the Westview Gardens Cemetery, Bessemer City, NC, at a later date.
