Daniel Andrew Schmalz

Daniel Andrew Schmalz, 60, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully on April 27, 2026, at MCG Health Medical Center, Augusta, GA following a sudden illness.  He was born on November 26, 1965 in Harbor Beach Michigan, to the late Richard and Joyce (Christenson) Schmalz. Dan worked as a plumber for over 30 years at Kimball’s Plumbing Heating-Electrical and AC in Aiken, SC. Dan was a family man, he was loved and deeply appreciated by everyone who knew him. He loved everything with the sun, water, and relaxation. From day trips or weekend getaways to Hunting Island in Beaufort, SC with his family and beloved dog Gelato, to movie nights, playing card games or scrabble at home. Dan was an incredible cook, he enjoyed trying new recipes cooking at home and going out to the best restaurants. He was kind, easy-going, hard working, funny, with a child-like spirit. He was an amazing father to his children and partner to the love of his life Rory. Dan will be deeply missed, but his memory will forever remain in the hearts and minds of those who knew him. 

Dan is survived by his daughters: Jade Schmalz, Leah Schmalz, Maya Woolman, all of Aiken. sister: Beth Welker of Harbor Beach Michigan, brother: Paul Schmalz (Carol) of Prescott, Michigan. Sister in-law: Sharon Schmalz of Harbor Beach, Michigan. He is also survived by many special aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents: Richard and Joyce Schmalz, brother: Michael Schmalz, and his loving partner: Rory Murguia. 

A memorial service to honor the life and legacy of Daniel Andrew Schmalz will be held Saturday, May 9, 2026, at 10 o'clock at the Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home with The Rev. Will Altman officiating. The service will be livestreamed at https://iframe.dacast.com/b/156599/c/585055.
