DaCosta Muckenfuss, Jr., of Summerville, South Carolina, passed from this life on July 7, 2026.

Known to those close to him as “Muck”, his 83 years were well spent on: his love of family, friends, passion for the education of the children of South Carolina, and his beloved Alma mater,Clemson University.

Born to DaCosta Muckenfuss and Frances Lide Muckenfuss in 1942, DaCosta was graduatedfrom Clemson University in 1967. He spent more than 30 years dedicated to the vocationaleducation of the state’s teens, serving as the Director of the F.E DuBose Vocational Center inManning, South Carolina and the Career Development Center/Applied Technology Center inRock Hill, South Carolina. A past president of the Vocational Directors of South Carolina, DaCosta continued to advocate for public education as a lobbyist for the South CarolinaAssociation of School Administrators (SCASA).

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, he shared his love for life with all who enjoyed his company. Whether on the golf course, beach, ski slope, dance floor, or in Death Valley, Muck usually had a smile and a story to share. He always loved a joke, a good song, and a great game (but only if the Tigers won)!

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Frances Touchberry Muckenfuss (Neil), his son and daughter-in-law, Sean Daniel (Clemson ‘94) and Shannon Harmon Muckenfuss, and his grandson, Ryan DaCosta Muckenfuss (Clemson ‘25).

A celebration of life will be held for family and friends at the outdoor pavilion of the Summerville Country Club, 400 Country Club Blvd, Summerville, SC on August 8, 2026 from 2-5 pm. In recognition of his love of tailgating at Clemson, all friends are encouraged to wear orange or purple, but garnet and red are respected/appreciated. The family welcomes friends in attendance to share favorite memories of Dad.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Clemson University Foundation or the Clarendon School District Two Education Foundation.
