CYNTHIA ANN GRAY, 78, widow of Thomas C. Gray, passed away, Tuesday, October 14, 2025 in Aiken Regional Medical Centers with her loving family by her side.
Born in Polk County, Florida, Cynthia was a daughter of the late Howard Durrance and Margaret Altman Durrance Whitehurst. She was also the step-daughter of the late James A. Whitehurst. She graduated from Aiken High School and attended Lander University. Cynthia was a devoted Navy wife and traveled from duty station to duty station with her husband. She returned to Aiken in 1992 and was an active member of Levels Baptist Church until her health no longer allowed. She loved the Atlanta Braves and was an avid Lady Gamecocks Basketball fan.
Surviving is her daughter, Shannon Strang (Lewis), Aiken; her son, James Gray (Sabrina), Fairfax; honorary daughter, Sandy Mundy; grandchildren, James Markel, Katelynn Eagel and Luke Strang; 3 step-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Pat Holley (Tom), Aiken; niece, Elizabeth Anderson (Brian) and nephew, Tommy Holley (Tiffany). In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a niece, Tricia Holley.
The family will receive friends Friday afternoon, October 17th from 1 until 2 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 2 o’clock.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association (alz.org) or Wounded Warrior Project (woundedwarriorproject.org).
