CPO Richard James O'Rourke, USN, Ret.

March 10, 1935 — May 27, 2022

AIKEN, SC - CPO RICHARD JAMES O’ROURKE, USN, Ret., beloved husband of CAPT Amoret Breland O’Rourke, USN, Ret., passed away Friday, May 27, 2022 at his residence.

Born in Bath, NY, Richard was a son of the late  Michael and Hazel Kranz O’Rourke.  He played basketball  for St. Ann’s Catholic School in Hornell, NY and graduated from Hornell High School.  He was a 24-year veteran of the United States Navy.  He and Amoret met while serving in the Navy and were married for 51 years.  They moved to Aiken in 1992.  He was a great fan of the Hornell Dodgers and was an avid supporter and lover of animals.

Surviving, in addition to his wife Amoret, are his sister, Cathleen O. Aini (Anthony), Hornell, NY; two sisters-in-law, Margaret O’Rourke, Hornell, NY, Linda O’Rourke, Canisteo, NY and a number of nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John and William O’Rourke

A memorial service will be held Saturday morning, June 4th at 11 o’clock in St. Paul Episcopal Church, Graniteville, SC.  Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Friends of the Animal Shelter (fotasaiken.org).
