AIKEN, SC - Claude Riley “Bud” Henderson, 83, died June 6, 2018 after a brief illness.
Mr. Henderson was born August 30, 1934, in Franklin, PA. He was an outstanding athlete all his life. He was a high school state wrestling champion, winner of several golf tournaments, an outstanding bowler, and a minor league baseball pitcher. He also played tennis and umpired youth baseball games.
He was a graduate of the University of Maryland with a degree in journalism and served two years in the U. S. Army.
He spent most of his adult life as a newspaper editor, winning several awards for his writing.
He took time out from the newspaper business in 1983 to open a gymnastics academy in Wilmington, North Carolina, where he trained several state champions and national qualifiers.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy; three sons, David of Connecticut, Daniel of Connecticut and Douglas of North Carolina; and three daughters, Meghan, Nikki and Traci, all of Ashtabula, Ohio; two step-daughters, Stephanie Wohleber, Lorain, OH, Andrea Wohleber, Washington, DC.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Martha Henderson; two sisters, Jane Hanna and Shirley Parisi and a son, Dennis Henderson.
