Clark Raymond Saylor, a devoted family man and beloved member of his community, passed away peacefully at his home in Beech Island, South Carolina on August 20, 2026, at the age of 83. Born on January 22, 1943, in Canton, Ohio, Clark grew up on a farm in Canal Fulton, where his early years among horses instilled in him both a strong work ethic and an enduring appreciation for life’s simple joys.
Clark began his professional journey at Ohio Brass in Barberton, Ohio. In 1984, he moved his family to Aiken, South Carolina, where he took on the role of production manager with Hubbell Power Systems. Never one to shy away from new challenges, Clark transitioned in 1988 to the Savannah River Site, serving as a maintenance planner. There, he built lasting friendships and earned the respect of colleagues until his retirement in 2002.
Clark was a communicant at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church. His devotion to faith paralleled his commitment to his family—a source of immense pride and unconditional love.
Clark’s heart belonged first and foremost to his family. He is survived by his cherished wife of over 63 years, Eileen Simpkins Saylor; his loving daughters, Lisa Sabatino of Massillon, OH, Laurie Collins (Steve) of Dexter, GA, Julie Coggins (Lyndon) of Windsor, SC, and Jill Gunter (James) of Durham, NC; and his devoted sons, Robert Saylor (Mindy) of Orlando, FL, and Christopher Saylor (Bonner) of Chapel Hill, NC. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Joseph Sabatino, Don Sabatino, Shawn Sikes, Steven Sikes, Amanda Johnson, Kristen Zachry, Brandon Saylor, Caitlyn Saylor, Rox Gunter, and Samuel Saylor. Clark also leaves behind great-grandchildren: Italina, Phoebe, Tristan Sabatino, Aubrey, Scarlet Sikes, Luke, and Emelia (Emmie) Johnson.
Clark is also survived by his sister Sharon Hayes (Tom) of Virginia Beach, VA and his brothers Timothy Saylor (Amy) of Canal Fulton, OH and Ernie Saylor of Virginia Beach, VA, who each shared in the fabric of his life’s journey. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Saylor and Olivia Rae Floom Saylor; his granddaughter Carrie Sabatino; his great-grand daughter Gabby Sabatino; his son-in-law Donald Sabatino; great-grandson Noah Saylor; sister Estelle Samblanet; and brother Richard Saylor.
Those who knew Clark best will remember his steadfast support for his grandchildren. Whether it was a ballgame, a band performance, or a ballet recital, Clark was always present, cheering from the stands or applauding from the audience. His unwavering encouragement and joyful spirit inspired those around him and nurtured the pursuits and dreams of each new generation.
Clark’s love of trains was apparent when he turned a spare bedroom in to a showcase of model trains his children and grandchildren enjoyed immensely.
Both Clark and his wife, Eileen, enjoyed traveling to Florida to visit Disney World and to see their life-long best friends, Pat and Ed. This tradition of going to Florida for their anniversary each year brought them much joy.
When Clark first moved his family to SC, he joined an RC plane club and flew a little yellow plane that was reminiscent of a sunbeam on wings buzzing across the fields in Windsor, where he and his family spent many weekends immersed in watching gravity-defying dances over the green expanse.
His other hobbies included reading and taking long car rides which often ended at the Strom Thurmond Dam overlooking Clark’s Hill lake, a place he loved bringing his family to for picnics, swimming and boating with a sail boat he made with his own two hands.
Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and celebration of Clark’s life. Visitation will be held at Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home, 715 E Pine Log Rd, Aiken, SC, Monday evening, August 24th from 5 until 7 o'clock with a Rosary at 5:15 PM.
