Charles Herring, 65, born August 31, 1959 in Phenix City, Alabama, passed away peacefully on May 21, 2025, in Atlanta, Georgia.
A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Charles is survived by his loving wife, Pamela Herring. His daughter, Jennifer (Chris) and son, Charles Jr. Eight stepchildren, Jeremy (Sheila), Justin (Mary-Katherine), Jillian, Christine (Josh), Kacy, Dylan, Tyler, and Nicholas (Caroline). And six beloved grandchildren, Bridget, Sagan, Mallory, Kaden, Maddox, and Zachary. His brother, Ron, and sister, Judy. He was preceded in death by his parents James and Annie Herring.
He was a steady presence and source of strength for all who knew and loved him.
Charles proudly served his country as a U.S. Navy veteran, carrying the values of service and dedication throughout his life. Following his military service, he attended Nuclear Power Program in New York, where he qualified as a Nuclear Plant Operator, as well as Engineering Technician (ELT). He built a long and respected career at the Savannah River Site (SRS), where he worked diligently for 34 years.
Known for his love of Alabama football “Roll Tide”, and Braves baseball, a passion he joyfully passed on to his daughter, Jennifer, and son, Charles Jr. He found great joy in cheering on Charles Jr. in his athletic pursuits, as well as in quiet moments spent grilling, reading, or retreating to the peace of the mountains with his beloved wife, Pam. Charles’s easygoing spirit, quiet wit, deep love for his family, and steadfast loyalty touched the lives of all who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who had the honor of calling him a friend.
The family will receive friends Saturday afternoon, May 31st from 3 until 5 o'clock at Shellhouse - Rivers Funeral Home.
