Charles Edward Haas “Charlie” was born September 7, 1940 and went to be with our lord and savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, June 17, 2026. He was proceeded in death by his parents LeRoy and Gladys Haas, the mother of his children Barbara Sue “Susie” Haas, a son-in-law Richard Gibson, nephews Stephen and Dimetri Christopher.
He is survived by his wife Patricia. His legacy is carried on by his children and their spouses, Tammy and Wesley Areford, James and Terri Haas, Roxanna Gibson, David and Charlene Haas. Grandchildren; Holly and Tyler Grubb, Michael and Dorothy Haas and Jeffrey and Jennie Haas, Ryan Gibson, Justin and Haley Gibson, and Josh Gibson, and Payton Haas. Great-Grandchildren; Meghan, Ashley, and James Haas, Brynlee, Rylie and Kaysen Grubb. Also survived by one sister and her spouse; Sandra Sue and Roger Christopher and nieces and nephew; Samantha Christopher and Kyhaira , and Matthew Christopher.
As a United States Marine, Charles was stationed at Camp Lejune in North Carolina and served his country during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He traveled to many countries, his favorite destination being the U.S. Virgin Islands. After returning to West Virginia, he was employed as a Coal Miner then Maintenance Forman for Consol. Later Charles volunteered at Monongalia Emergency Services (EMS) in Morgantown, WV. After successfully completing medical courses and training he was employed by EMS as a Paramedic. This was by far his most rewarding career. After retiring from EMS he moved South with his wife Pat where they enjoyed 29 years of camping, fishing, traveling and fun. Charles had a great love for the ocean, beach, outdoors and animals. He was an avid fisherman enjoying many hours on his boat or fishing from the shore. In his earlier days he liked to hunt. He enjoyed attending races at the Morgantown Speedway where he and his dad served as electricians.
Charles had four children with his former wife. During the rearing of his children, he attended many marching and concert band performances, football games, and wrestling meets.
Charlie’s Family would like to thank the wonderful doctors, nurses, and technicians who cared for him at the Prisma Heart Hospital in Columbia, SC.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2026 from 1-2 p.m. with the Funeral Liturgy at 2:00 p.m. at Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home, 715 East Pine Log Rd, Aiken, SC 29803. The Rite of Committal will follow in Calvary Cemetery. The service will be livestreamed at (https://iframe.dacast.com/b/156599/c/585055) .
