CAPT Amoret Breland O’Rourke, USN, Ret., 87, widow of CPO Richard James O’Rourke, USN, Ret., passed away Friday, June 20, 2025 in her home.
Born in Richmond, VA, Amoret was the daughter of the late John Eldred and Margaret Bond Breland. She dedicated 26 years of her life to the United States Navy, where she proudly ascended to the rank of Captain. During her service, she was notably part of the USNS Comfort during Operation Desert Storm. It was in the Navy that she met her husband, Richard, with whom she shared a loving partnership for 51 years. In 1992, they relocated to Graniteville, where Amoret became an active member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, serving as a Lector and contributing to her community.
Amoret's professional journey as a registered nurse was marked by over 62 years of commitment to healthcare. She served in the operating room at Aiken Regional Medical Centers until her retirement in 2018, after more than 25 years of dedicated service. Additionally, she imparted her knowledge by teaching Surgical Technology, Phlebotomy, and Medical Terminology at Aiken Technical College.
A memorial service will be held Monday morning, June 30th at 11 o’clock at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Graniteville with The Rev. Doug Puckett officiating. The service will be livestreamed at https://iframe.dacast.com/b/156599/c/585055. Amy will be interred with her husband in Arlington National Cemetery.
