AIKEN, SC – Bruce Stonewall Snipes, 89, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 29, 2026, after a full and well-lived life.
A native and lifelong resident of Aiken, Bruce was the son of the late Stonewall Jackson Snipes and Adele Sanford Snipes. An entrepreneur, horseman, and innovator, he was a pioneering figure in thoroughbred racing and equine nutrition.
Known for his hands-on approach, Bruce used his own stables located over the years in Aiken, Versailles, Kentucky, and Ocala, Florida, as testing grounds for his formulations, ensuring their effectiveness for high performance racehorses before bringing them to market. His contributions left a lasting mark on the equine community and the culture of Aiken.
Over the course of his distinguished career, Bruce founded several successful companies, including Horse Health Products, Inc., Corta-Flx Inc., and Equine America. Through these ventures, he revolutionized equine care with groundbreaking nutritional supplements that transformed both competitive racing and general horse wellness.
Among his most notable achievements was the development of Corta-Flx®, a joint supplement that introduced a new approach to equine health by using smaller, more absorbable molecular components. He also created Red Cell®, one of the world’s leading iron-rich performance supplements, along with many first-of-their-kind products.
Bruce’s legacy extended well beyond product development. As an avid horseman, breeder, owner, and trainer, he maintained a decades-long presence in the racing world. His horses frequently competed at major tracks such as Laurel Park, Delaware Park, and Penn National, as well as internationally. His Nekia Farms achieved remarkable success, winning eight consecutive City of Aiken Trophies at the Aiken Trials in the early 2000s. His work and horses were often featured in BloodHorse, a leading publication in the thoroughbred industry.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Bruce proudly served as a veteran of the United States Navy.
He is survived by his two sons, Wallace Snipes of Aiken, SC, and Wayne Snipes of Atlanta, GA; a daughter in kind, Vicky Redfern of Aiken, SC; grandchildren Dillon Snipes, Alexandria Brown, Zach Milligan, Jonathan Prather, and Dalton Williams; many great-grandchildren; and one brother, Jack Snipes of Aiken, SC.
The family will receive friends on Saturday evening, April 18, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home, 715 East Pine Log Road, Aiken, SC.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the SPCA in Aiken, SC.
