NEW ELLENTON, SC - BILLY JOE SPROUSE, 87, husband of the late Joyce Culbertson Sprouse, passed away Wednesday morning, April 26, 2023 at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Greenville, SC, Billy Joe was a son of the late Joseph Samuel and Welborn Elizabeth Perry Sprouse. He grew up in Hickory Tavern in Laurens County before moving to Aiken County in 1954 to work at the Savannah River Plant. He retired from Westinghouse SRS in 1993. Billy Joe was a dedicated member of Foreman Memorial Baptist Church. He loved playing softball in his earlier years. He was an avid fisherman and loved horses.
Survivors include two daughters, Debbie Thorne (Larry), Williston, Melanie Boyd (Allen), New Ellenton; five grandchildren, Jeremy Thorne (Amanda), Damian Thorne, Leah Thorne, Aaron Boyd (Tiffany), Rodney Boyd (Tracy); ten great-grandchildren; his brother, Ronnie Sprouse (Gail), Waterloo; sister-in-law, Jamie Lewis, Cairo, GA.
A graveside service will be held Saturday, April 29th at 11 o’clock in Southlawn Cemetery with Chaplain Mark Hudson of Gentiva Hospice officiating. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service.
The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to April Hall and staff of Professional Case Management, “our angel” Marilyn Chinn and Gentiva Hospice for their compassionate and professional care.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Foreman Memorial Baptist Church, 207 Smith Ave., New Ellenton, SC 29809.
