Benny Scott Clayton

December 9, 1968 — July 29, 2025

Aiken, SC

Benny Scott Clayton, age 56, passed away on July 29, 2025, in Aiken, South Carolina.

He was born in Augusta, Georgia on December 9, 1968 to Marilyn and Marshall Clayton. Benny was a wonderful storyteller, with crazy stories from his years on the road as a professional truck driver, a jokester who loved to tease his family, and an amazing mechanic. Benny, a true jack of all trades, was known for his willingness to help anyone who needed it.

The Army National Guard gave Benny a true sense of belonging. He faithfully served until driving semi’s coast to coast until it became impossible to make it back for duty. He was honorably discharged, but remained loyal to the friends he served with.

Brought up in church, Benny was baptized into the Baptist faith and attended several different churches through the years, the last one being TrueNorth Church in North Augusta, South Carolina.

Benny felt like God had given him a second chance when he and Ashlee started their family. He quit his truck driving career to be home every night and started another career as a diesel mechanic. He became the father he always wanted to be, doting on his three little ones. He spoke with Ashlee often of his older children and his love for them.

Benny is survived by his fianceé Ashlee Megan Mitchell, their three children, Charlotte R Clayton, Andrew M Clayton, and Anthony S Clayton, along with his other children, Nicholas Cascario-Clayton, Ivy Vance, Thomas Clayton, Michael Clayton, and Elizabeth King, siblings, Sue (Jim) Dodd, Mark Vickers, Jr., LaDonna Jantzen, Vonda (Jimmy) Adamson, Connie (Ricky) Rule, Pamela (Bob Payne) Basey, Todd Clayton.

Benny was predeceased by his parents, Marilyn S Marshall and Marshall D Clayton, brother, Stephen Clayton, and nephew, Brandon C Hall.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 7:00 PM on Wednesday, August 6, 2025 at Shellhouse Funeral Home on Hayne Ave. Interment with military honors will be held in Ft. Jackson National Cemetery at a later date.
