Barbara Richardson Schultz, a lifelong resident of Aiken, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2026, with her daughters by her side. Born on August 2, 1939, to Jim O. and Eula Lee Cook Richardson, Barbara’s life was deeply rooted in her community, church, and family.

Barbara was a charter member of Solid Rock Baptist Church, not only helping with the construction of the church but where she also played a vital role in the spiritual growth of the congregation. She lovingly led the Young at Heart group and was the devoted wife of a deacon. Her faith and commitment extended beyond the church walls as she and her late husband volunteered with Gideon’s International. Additionally, Barbara was a volunteer with the Ladies Hospital Auxiliary of Aiken Regional Medical Centers. Her enduring marriage of 66 years to the late Harry A Schultz was a testament to her devotion, love and partnership. Barbara also faced the sorrowful loss of her son, Harry Bruce Schultz in 2025 as well as her first born grandson, William Spencer Marshall in 2005.

Barbara enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, and church but most of all, spending time with her grandkids. Barbara had a strong hand in helping to raise all 4 of her grands. Another enjoyment of hers was perhaps the one she was known for throughout Aiken....Baking Cakes. Barbara was affectionatelly referred to by friends and church aquaintances as the Cake Lady. She baked for church, friends, schools and was famous for her Monday morningdelivery to the Police Station so they could start the week off happy.

Barbara is survived by her daughters, Penny Schultz Stanford and her husband Greg, and Rose Schultz Marshall, both of Aiken. She was a proud grandmother to the late William Spencer Marshall, Jr., of Aiken; Harry Logan Marshall of Baltimore, Maryland; Joshua Ethan Lowe of Aiken; and Barbara Taylor Abelar and her husband Zakerie of Aiken. She also welcomed a great-granddaughter 2 weeks ago, Elowyn Abelar. Also surviving are her sisters, Eunice Irby and Betty R. Thompson and her brother-in-law Clinton Schultz and his wife Blanche, all of Aiken. Barbara’s extended family includes many cousins, nieces, and a nephew.
