Anne Kennedy Hodges Cain

October 26, 1937 — November 7, 2025

Aiken, SC

Anne Cain, a tender, kind, and loving woman of unwavering faith, entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on Friday, November 7, 2025. Born to Robert Hayne Hodges and Mary Lawton Hodges, she grew up surrounded by love and laughter alongside her three siblings.

Throughout her life, Anne embodied a servant’s heart. She never spoke a bad word against anyone and was always thinking of others first. Whether visiting and praying with people in the hospital, leading Bible studies, teaching English to Chinese women while sharing the Gospel, or serving faithfully as a Deacon and member on various committees, her life was a living testimony of Christ’s love in action. Anne was a member at Aiken First Baptist Church where she started a Women's Bible Study.

A devoted mother of three spirited boys and a loving daughter, she poured her heart into her family—always present, supportive, and encouraging. As a wife, she stood faithfully beside her husband, Marshall Cain for 63 years, through every season, offering grace, prayer, and steadfast love through their busy schedules and times of travel.

Professionally, Anne served with excellence and grace. She worked for U.S. Senator Strom Thurmond, where she met her wonderful husband, Marshall. Her career also included time with Governor Carroll Campbell, the CIA, the Aiken Standard, and a photography studio, where her passion for capturing memories came alive. Behind every lens, she saw beauty, connection, and God’s handiwork.

Her faith was the cornerstone of her life. A woman of deep prayer, daily interceding for her husband, children, friends and many others. She loved reading and studying the Scripture, attending church faithfully, and serving wherever she was needed. She touched lives not only in her community but across the world, participating in mission trips to Israel and traveling internationally with dear friends who became family.

She was a devoted friend, known for her affection, loyalty, and joyful spirit. Those who knew her will remember her radiant smile, her thoughtful words, and the way she made everyone feel seen and loved.

She is predeceased by her loving husband, Marshall Cain, her parents, and her sister, Mary Hodges Davis (Jim). She is survived by her daughter, Julie McGill (Tommy) and their children, Thomas (Kylie), Kennedy (Andrew) and their son Elliot, and Leandra; her son Marshall (Starr) and their children, Thomas, Katherine, and Sanders; her son David (Sarah) and their children, Madison, Hannah, and Titus; and her son Stuart (Ellen) and their sons, Caleb, Benjamin, and Gideon; and her brothers, the Honorable Robert (Lady) Hodges; David (Sue) Hodges, as well as many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
