AIKEN, SC - Mrs. Alma "Amy" Ruble Ray, 85, beloved wife of Willie Winfred Ray, was called home to the Lord at her residence on Sunday, September 17, 2017. Amy was born in Winston-Salem, NC on November 25, 1931, to the late Samuel Leroy Ruble and Millicent Genevieve Ruble. She has called Aiken her home since 1952, accompanied by her husband of 67 years. Amy is survived by her loving husband Willie Winfred Ray and two sons, Kenneth Earl (Arlene) Ray and Randy Perry (Cynthia) Ray, both of Aiken, SC; four grandchildren, Jennifer Kerri (Greg) Baughman of Warrenville, SC, Walter Herbert (Kimberly) Ray of Williston, SC, Lauren Michelle (Christopher) McCarley and Jonathon Lee (Cassandra) Ray of Aiken, SC; two great grandchildren, Lukas and Caden Ray of Aiken, SC, a sister, Betty Ruble Black of Wilmington, NC, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister Beverly Ruble Allen and a brother LeRoy Ruble, both of Durham, NC. She was a member of Aiken First Baptist Church for 63 years, where she was head of the Primary Department for numerous years, volunteered in the church office, played piano, played in the adult hand-bell choir, on the benevolence committee and mission's action group. She was in the Truth Seeker Sunday school class and very active. Amy also taught piano lessons from her home for 27 years. She volunteered with the Mended Hearts program, spending countless hours visiting patients at Aiken Regional Hospital. She was an avid golfer, helping where ever needed with the Mended Hearts golf tournaments for local charities. She was a member of Midland Valley and Cedar Creek Country Club's and the Midland Valley Women's Golf Association. She was the former historian for the SC Square and Round Dance Federation, later becoming honorary member of Carolina Squares and inducted into the Hall of Fame. She had a variety of hobbies, such as fishing, bowling, aerobics, mall walking, reading, sewing, traveling and most of all, playing with her grandchildren and socializing with family and friends. Visitation will be held at Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral home, 715 East Pine Log Road, Aiken, SC, 29801 Tuesday, September 19th between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday September 20th at Aiken First Baptist Church, 120 Chesterfield Street, Aiken, SC with the Reverend Dr. Fred W. Andrea, III officiating. Interment will follow in Aiken Memorial Gardens, 1523 Edgefield Hwy (Highway 19), Aiken, SC 29801. Pallbearers will be Walter Ray, Jonathon Ray, Christopher McCarley and Greg Williams. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes to direct all memorials to Aiken First Baptist Church, 120 Chesterfield Street NE, Aiken, SC 29801.
