Joel B Kinder

AIKEN - Joel Bookhardt Kinder passed away unexpectedly on January 9, 2017 at his residence in Aiken.  Joel was a graduate of South Aiken High School as well as the College of Charleston.  He also studied graphic design at The Portfolio Center, Atlanta Georgia.  He now rests in peace with his brother Joshua, and his mother, Joyce Lynn (Neeley) Kinder.  Joel was a gentle soul who cared greatly for other people and for his two dogs, Brian and Ricky.  He was self-employed as an installer of window treatments, and also worked in the health care field.  His other interests included working on automobiles, gardening and cooking.  He did all of these extremely well, learning them through self-instruction, perseverance and experimentation.  His barbecue and many other culinary delights will be missed, along with the pleasure he took in serving others and the gentle and kind aspect he presented to those who had the good fortune of knowing him.  He is survived by his father, Harvey James Kinder, also of Aiken, and his sister, Alyson Mills Kinder of Johns Island. Alyson and Harvey will receive friends and family at Shellhouse Funeral Home, 924 Hayne Ave. after a brief service there in Joel’s memory, beginning at 2 PM on Friday, January 13 with Pastor Terry Roof officiating.
