William "Billy" Hitchens

July 24, 1988 — December 30, 2016

AIKEN - William "Billy" Carter Hitchens was called home to the house of the Lord on Friday, December 30, 2016.  He was needed to help the angels laugh, play, and dance.  He never met anyone who wasn't a friend.  Billy was a beach boy having lived more than 20 years in Wilmington, NC.  Billy loved all sports and had a love of life with abounding determination in everything he did.  Billy was a joyous soul with a contagious laugh who lived life to the fullest.  He was one of God's special angels among us.Billy was a graduate of Laney High School class of 2010 in Wilmington, NC.  He was a member of Woodside Country Club in Aiken, The Recing Crew in North Augusta, and the UFO Club in Wilmington, NC.He is survived by his parents, Dean and Debbie Hitchens of Aiken, SC; his sister Heather Hitchens of Augusta, GA; brothers Daniel Gottleber of Bay City. MI, Michael Detz of Orlando, FL, and adopted family member Chris Lunsford of Wilmington, NC.  Grandparents Chuck and Donna Campbell; aunts and uncles, Vicki Gizowski, Dori and Tom Amthor, Jim and Lynn Campbell, Gerri Detloff, and the Reverend Charles and Kelly Campbell.  His nieces and nephews included Tria, Jordan, Kristen and Ryan Detz.He was preceded in death by a sister Jenny Detz, nephew Tyler Gottleber, and grandparents Chuck and Jo Hitchens.The family would like to thank Augusta University Hospital (GRU), Dr. John Baldezar and staff of Wilmington, NC for the care and compassion they gave to Billy.The family will receive friends from 3:30-6:00 PM Wednesday, January 4, 2016 at Cedar Creek Church, Banks Mill Rd., and a Celebration of Billy's life will follow at 6:00 PM.  The Reverend Danny Wilson and the Reverend Charles Campbell will officiate.In lieu of flowers, please make donations made out to the Recing Crew, of North Augusta, or the Cedar Creek Kids Camp of Aiken.SHELLHOUSE-RIVERS FUNERAL HOME, INC., 715 E.
