John Harding Owen

Aiken -- Mr. John Harding Owen, 84 died Tuesday, December 20. 2016.   A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, December 23, 2016 in the St. Thaddeus Episcopal Chapel with the Reverend Grant Wiseman officiating.  Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will then receive friends in the Stevenson-McClelland building.   Mr. Owen was born in San Francisco, CA, the son of the late Henry and Mary Kirkland Owen.  He graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a BS from Hampton Sydney then an MS from Florida State.  He moved to Aiken in 1955 and was a chemist for E.I. DuPont  at the Savannah River Plant.  He was a member of St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church.     Mr. Owen is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Allen Snow Owen, Aiken; daughters Deborah (Tom) McDonald, Roanoke, VA and Elizabeth Mann, Greenville, SC; and son, Kirk (Cindy) Owen, Aiken.  He is also survived by his grandchildren: Zach (Kate) Hill, Chesapeake, VA; Sara (Juan Carlos) Vivanco, Vienna, Austria; Mary Allen (Mark) Murphy, Greer SC; Cullen Mann, Greenville, SC; four great-grandchildren and another due in May; and many nieces and nephews.     In lieu of flowers, please direct memorials to St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church, 125 Pendleton St. SW, Aiken, SC 29801.   SHELLHOUSE FUNERAL HOME, INC., 924 HAYNE AVE., AIKEN, SC Harding's online guest book may be signed by visiting www.shellhousefuneralhome.com     To order memorial trees or send flowers to the family in memory of John Harding Owen, please visit our flower store.
