Aiken, SC – Reba Hawkins Weisner, 85, of Aiken, died December 12, 2016 in Aiken Regional Hospital.
Born in Prosperity, South Carolina, August 12, 1931, she was the daughter of the late George I. and Rilla Epting Hawkins. She was a graduate of Prosperity High School and attended Newberry College. She was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Aiken, where she was also a former member of the choir. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Queen City Chapter, in Aiken. She served as a Worthy Matron of the Chapter. She held state positions as Grand Ruth, Grand Organist, and Grand Representative of Washington, D.C. She was a member of the Order of the Amaranth and White Shrine of Jerusalem. She was an adult worker with the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls and served in the state as the Adult Grand Organist. As an adult worker with the Order, she was awarded the Grand Cross of Color. She was a Past President of Aiken Choral Society, Past President of the Foxchase Women, and a member of Houndslake Country Club. She loved gardening and floral arranging, playing the piano and organ, singing, and spending time with her family. She always had a friendly smile for everyone and enjoyed mailing cards to friends and extended family, never forgetting to remember someone’s birthday. She was friends to so many, and visited the sick in nursing homes and hospitals. She dearly loved her granddaughter, Amy.
Reba is survived by her husband of 67 years, L. Earl Weisner; and her daughter, Susan (Michael) Broom of Columbia; and granddaughter, Amy Broom; and sister, Dorothy Hawkins Wise of Newberry; and many nieces and nephews.
Reba was predeceased by her son, Lendon Earl Weisner, III; brothers, Bittle Hawkins, Woodrow Hawkins, and an infant brother, Curtis Hawkins; sisters, Arlie Frazier, Alda Rae Pugh Amick, Elise Bedenbaugh Martin, and an infant sister, Bertie Lee Hawkins.
Funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 AM Thursday, December 15, 2016, at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Aiken. Burial will follow at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church Cemetery in Stoney Hill, South Carolina at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, December 14 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Shellhouse-Rivers Funeral Home on Pine Log Road in Aiken.
Reba’s nephews will serve as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbears will be members of the Order of the Eastern Star, Amaranth, and White Shrine of Jerusalem.
