Aiken - Virginia Alois Shelton Dunkelbarger, 89, died December 2, 2016. She was born in Williamson, WV to the late Acree Hale and Imal Riley Shelton. A long time realtor and developer in Aiken, she was a past President of the Aiken Board of Realtors, and Realtor of the Year. Mrs. Dunkelbarger was instrumental in the building and development of Croft House, Aiken’s Assisted Living residence and served on its board. She was also a member of Toast Masters and Aiken Community Playhouse Black Box Story Telling Group.  Virginia loved travel and adventure.  She bought her airplane, a Cessna 172, before she even had her pilot’s license.  As a private pilot, she enjoyed weekend “Poker Runs”, trips up and down the east coast and being a member of the Civil Air Patrol. Survivors include her daughters, Jeanine Baxter Adams, Johns Island, SC, Cynthia Baxter Riley, Aiken, SC, grandsons, Bryan Adams, Orlando, FL, Matthew Adams, Raleigh, NC, great-grandson, Brantley Adams, Raleigh, NC, half sister, Sue Stoke, Charlottesville, VA, half brother, Garland Shelton, Greta, VA and a nephew, Stephen Shelton. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Dunkelbarger. A visitation will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to an animal shelter of choice.
