AIKEN, SC - MARY HELEN IVEY DEESE passed away peacefully in her sleep at Pepper Hill Nursing and Rehab Center in Aiken, SC, on Tuesday, August 11, 2015. She was 99.
Born November 10, 1915, in Albemarle, NC, she lived in Savannah, GA for most of her life before moving to Aiken in 2012 due to poor health and to be closer to her family. She and her husband owned a several furniture stores throughout Georgia, living in Savannah where they worked all their lives together. Mrs. Deese was a lifelong member of Wesley Monumental United Methodist Church in Savannah.
Survivors include her daughter, Mrs. Kay D. Moody, Aiken, SC, her daughter's husband, W. R. Moody, her two grandsons, Fulton T. Ray, Aiken, SC and Dr. James A. Ray, Augusta, GA, two granddaughters and four great grandchildren
Mrs. Deese was preceded in death by her husband, James Ira Deese.
The funeral service will be held Wednesday afternoon at 4 o’clock at Shellhouse – Rivers Funeral Home with The Rev. Dr. Tim McClendon officiating. The family will receive friends following the service. Graveside services will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o’clock at Bonaventure Cemetery, Savannah, GA.
