AIKEN – Mrs. Jeannette Irene Major Simpson, 97, passed away Thursday, July 30, 2015 at her residence.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, August 3, 2015 at St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church with the Reverend Grant Wiseman officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will then receive friends in the Stevenson-McClelland building.
Mrs. Simpson was born in Lead, SD, a daughter of the late Robert Major and Nettie Evans Major. She had been a resident of Aiken since 1952, and was a member of St. Thaddeus Episcopal Church. She was also past chairperson of the Women’s Heart Fashion Shows, past President of Cerus Garden Club, served on the Town and Country board and as chairperson of the Ways and Means Committee, and was an avid bridge player.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan Simpson Crawford, Aiken; her son, Bill (Scarlett) Simpson, Frisco, TX; seven grandchildren, Wendelin (Michael) Sasnow, Edward (Vicki) Russell, Robert (Amber) Simpson, Brian (Kathleen) Simpson, Shane (Sarah) Walker, Kimberly (Sha) Copeland, Krystal (Brad) Hunsucker; 11 great great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Simpson was preceded in death by her husband, William James Simpson, Sr., and a brother, George Dale Major.
