Age 89, of East Tawas, MI, died on June 29, 2012 in Aiken, SC. He was born on August 5, 1922 to the late Charles and Grace Miller (nee Carpenter). Allan graduated from Tawas Area Schools in 1940 and later earned his Bachelor’s and Juris Doctorate Degrees from the University of Michigan. He was an attorney for Tawas City before serving as the Circuit Judge for 20 years for Iosco, Alcona and Oscoda Counties. Allan then served as a Federal Administrative Law Judge. His career spanned more than 50 years and he officially retired at the age of 86. Allan proudly replaced Judge Dehnke in Iosco County 25 years after he sentenced the man to life in prison that murdered his father Sheriff Charles Miller. He was a member of the American Bar Association and he also ran for the State Appeals and Supreme Courts. Allan was a life member of the Kiwanis Club and was a past local President and the Michigan Kiwanis Governor in 1975. He was a member of the Tawas United Methodist Church and his hobbies included Tennis and fishing. Allan is survived by his wife Betty, who he married on September 23, 1943 in Ann Arbor, MI, five children: Allan C. (Kate) Miller of Berkley, CA; Christopher (Peggy) Miller of Grand Rapids, MI; Van Miller of Naples, FL; Cliff (Rhonda) Miller of East Tawas, MI and Liz (Michael) Lewis Hartz of Aiken, SC. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; Jessica, Wyatt, Teal, Amanda, Andrea, Eric, Jason, Clifford, Allan, Rhys, 3 great-grandchildren; Marlon, Allan, Paxton and his brother Ken (Delphine) Miller of Naples, FL. In addition to his parents, Allan was preceded in death by his brother Charlie Miller and grandson Clayton Miller. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, July 5, 2012 – 11 am at the Tawas United Methodist Church with interment to follow in the Memory Gardens Cemetery in Tawas City, MI. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 9:30 am until the time of the service at 11 am at the church.
