Obituary notice Aiken…Mr. Richard Lord, Jr. died at his home in Aiken on March 24, 2007. He was born in Philadelphia Pa., the son of the late Richard Lord and Margaret Morgan Lord. He and his wife Philippa Smith Lord recently moved to Aiken from Stuart Florida to escape the hurricanes that pounded them in 2004 and to be closer to family. Richard is survived by his loving wife, two daughters Christine Rangnow & Robert Anderson her companion, of Collegeville Pa. and EileenWilliams & son-in-law Thomas Williams of Cedar Point, NC...also four step-children Anthony Donato of Blue Bell, Pa., Geoffrey Donato of Jenkintown, Pa., Carolyn Morgan and son-in-law Michael Morgan of Aiken, and Claire Donato and son-in-law Greg Acevedo of Philadelphia Pa., 10 Grandchildren and 4 Great Grandchildren…his sister, Sara Heim of Myrtle Beach and 4 nieces and 4 nephews; Richard grew up in Northeast Philadelphia and enlisted in the Marine Corps after graduation from high school. Following Basic Training at Parris Island, SC he was sent with the Marine Corps First Division to the Pacific Theater of Operations. He served with great valor in many actions there, most notably at Guadalcanal. During that lengthy tour of duty he had R&R in Australia, New Zealand and Bora Bora After the war and his honorable discharge, he worked in Philadelphia at H.R.Donnelly Printing in the old Curtis Publishing Co. Building, and later on was employed at Jeanes Hospital in Fox Chase. Richard and Philippa were married in 1980 and built, operated and co-partnered an Art & Picture framing business in Lansdale. The couple retired to Dataw Island SC in 1990 and then to Stuart in 2000. During his retirement, Richard was an avid boater, fisherman, crabber, shrimper, and golfer. He was openly friendly and warm, made friends easily, and loved life. He loved traveling with his wife, who was his love, his partner, his best friend and his constant companion in all things. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Services for Richard will be private for family. Friends may visit at home March 29th, from 7 to 9pm Donations in his memory to Regency Hospice would be appreciated.
