Sarah Ann Canady Mitchell McGinnis

AIKEN - Mrs. Sarah Ann Canady Mitchell McGinnis, 79, died Monday, April 2, 2012.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday at Charles Wesley United Methodist Church with the Reverend Jim Bennett, the Reverend Flynn Harrell, and the Reverend Jeff Tomlinson officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Jeff Blevins, Mark Canady, Keith Leopard, Skip Fowler, Russell Wood, Madison Canady and Donny Canady. Honorary Pall Bearers include Dale Blevins, Buford Connelly, Billy Kirkland, John Harmon, Hilton Miller, and Marcia Canady

Mrs. McGinnis was born September 21st, 1932 in Dorchester County, and has lived in Aiken since 1946. She was formerly a personnel department secretary for E.I. DuPont at the Savannah River Plant, a former beautician, and a current member of Charles Wesley United Methodist Church. As a member there, she was a former Epworth Children’s Home Fund Administrator. She attended Southern Methodist College and was Miss Aiken, 1949.

She is survived by her sons, Michael Wayne Mitchell of Aiken, Hal (Lisa) McGinnis of Houston, TX; a granddaughter, Natalie Hannah McGinnis of Houston, TX; a sister, Stella Canady Blevins Woodward of Aiken; a brother, Alton Z. Canady of Winston-Salem, NC; a sister-in-law, Pat Canady of Columbia, SC and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Madison Lewis and Lula Mae Gentry Canady; husbands, John Wayman Mitchell and Harold Eugene McGinnis, and brother, O.T. Canady.

All who knew her appreciated her for her kind, sensitive nature. The needs of others were always foremost on her mind. She will be extremely missed by so many.
